The AirPort Express was the first AirPlay device to receive. While more compact and in some ways simpler than another Apple Wi-Fi base station, the AirPort Extreme, the Express offers audio output capability the Extreme lacks. There are maybe better ways of accomplishing the type of setup that I have using different hardware. The AirPort Express is a discontinued Wi-Fi base station product from Apple Inc., part of the AirPort product line. It may be that not many people have this type of setup, however, as I have used this for quite a number of years, and have seen no need to change it.

It is flakey, but I have found that if I activate it just after Windows 10 has booted up, before using any other software, then it will find my Apple network successfully, although not always. Airport is 802.11b which was replaced by Airport Extreme which is 802.11g. Airport Express will only work using Airport Extreme as the base station I have tried with the BT home hub, and other routers, and Airport Express is not recognised by those routers, so cannot be used. Airport is the name for Apples wireless hardware.
